Vending Machine Explosion Rocks Mayfair

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A soda machine blown to pieces Thursday night in front of a local business in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.

Now police are tracking down the person they say could've killed someone.

The explosion was violent and rocked the entire neighborhood. It was so powerful it blew the vending machine apart and sent debris flying some 65 feet.

"This is not somebody playing with fireworks. This is someone who constructed an explosive device. A powerful one and somewhat sophisticated one," said Chief Joseph Sullivan of the Counter Terrorism Unit.

The explosion happened just after 10:00 p.m., shattering windows and startling neighbors for blocks.

"Loud explosion. I didn't know what to think. What it was," described neighbor Bob Poserina.

The blast blew a hole in the soda vending machine and knocked the front and rear off. It was all caught on tape by Ralph Glorioso's surveillance cameras outside the plumbing and heating business he's owned here for 30 years.

The explosion brought the city's bomb squad to the scene, along with ATF and detectives who carefully took evidence from the blast site. They are now tracking down leads and moving towards an arrest.

"This was a significant blast," said Chief Inspector Sullivan, "This is no joke, not a prank , we're treating it as a crime. We intend to make an arrest."

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
