Every high school athlete dreams of winning a state championship, and one local high school is the closest they've even been.

Bunker Hill High School in Claremont is playing in Greensboro for the 2A state baseball championship. It is the first time in the school's 60 year existence to have a chance at statewide baseball bragging rights.

"It's a new thing for us, I've never been there as a head coach," said Bunker Hill baseball head coach Marty Curtis.

Curtis has been coaching at "The Hill" for 31 years and even has the field named after him. He says the community plays a major role in getting his team to this level.

"I'm tickled to death for our community, our school, and our kids," said Curtis.

Bunker Hill is playing Midway High School in a best of three game series for the championship.

*Update*
Midway took game 1: 10-3. Game 2 will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. and Game 3 (if needed) will be at 5 p.m. (depending on a game 3 for the 4A championship) if so, Game 3 will be at 8 p.m.
