ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A mother has been arrested in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son.

Merissa Anderson was arrested and booked around 3 p.m. Friday.

She’s facing charges of failure to report child abuse and neglect of a child.

Her son, 2-year-old Justin Polk, Jr., was found unresponsive at the Countryside Inn & Suites on Lee Road on Monday.

The medical examiner ruled Polk’s death a homicide.

Investigators say the boy died of “multiple blunt impact injuries” and his body showed signs of other abuse.

Polk’s mother appeared in family court on Wednesday with the fathers of her two other children as the Department of Children and Families presented photographic evidence of alleged physical abuse of the remaining children.

According to the arrest affidavit, Anderson’s boyfriend Jonathan Charapata, who was watching the three children on Monday, is still under investigation and could be facing charges of child abuse and neglect.
