Los Alamitos Race Course was buzzing Friday night as horse racing fans placed their bets on Saturday's Belmont Stakes.
Gary Cloward is from Anaheim hills. He's already placed his bet.
"California chrome tomorrow, I've put $100 across the board on it," Cloward said.
Cloward says he's been a horse racing fan since he was 16-years-old.He's got high hopes that the California bred horse will win big at Belmont.
"A horse that was a nobody has a shot to make history which would be awesome," Cloward said."I'd call myself a Chromie, I'm definitely down with Chromie."
California Chrome was raised and trained here in California. He won the Kentucky Derby in 2014, then the Preakness Stakes and if he wins at Belmont tomorrow it will be the first time in 36 years a horse wins the Triple Crown. And patrons of Chrome's home, Los Alamitos, are banking on it.
"We're betting tonight for tomorrow," Jane Makepeace said. She says she, and her husband Dana Makepeace are "Chromies" as well.
"It's kind of a joke because my family's business is a chrome plating shop and it's names California Chrome Plating so it's not our horse, but it's our horse, technically. We're really rooting for him to win just for the name alone," Makepeace said.
Post time for the Belmont Stakes race is 3:52 p.m.
