Pinellas deputies investigate homicide in Dunedin

DUNEDIN (FOX 13) - The yellow crime scene tape wrapped around David Elsey's home is an unsettling sight for his neighbors.

"For it to happen right next door to you it's just really hard to wrap your head around it," said Patrick Martin.

Deputies found the 50-year-old Nielsen employee's body Saturday morning.

It's a shock you just don't expect something like this in your neighborhood," said Jim Colvin.

Deputies searched Elsey's house after Clearwater police pulled over 26-year-old Arthur Michael DeCarvalho.

"The suspect they had in custody was providing some information of a potential that we needed to do a welfare check at this address," said Cristen Rensel with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies rushed to Summit Way Saturday morning, but it was too late.

"When our deputies responded out to the scene no one answered the door our deputies went inside and found the body of the homeowner," said Rensel.

Deputies said the two men met online.

Neighbors said they lived together and had only seen DeCarvalho for a few weeks.

"They really kept to themselves they're just home bodies, here and there conversations," said Jason Kube.

DeCarvalho's name does not appear in Florida's corrections records.

But, he might not be from Florida.

Deputies said he is a drifter.

An unnerving fact in the quiet Dunedin community.

"I don't think it's really sunk in yet. I think I'm still very shocked by this I would say," said Martin.

Arthur Michael DeCarvalho has been charged with Murder in the First Degree. He has been transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
