ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - The boyfriend of a mother whose 2-year-old son was found dead at an Orlando motel has been arrested.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jonathan Charapata, 25, on Saturday at a relative’s home in Deltona.

An arrest warrant was issued for Charapata for two counts of felony child abuse.

He was taken to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office where he was first questioned, then booked at 9:10 p.m.

Charapata’s girlfriend Merissa Anderson, 22, was arrested Friday on charges of child neglect and failure to report child abuse.

Charapata, was watching her three kids while Anderson was at work on June 2, the same day the toddler was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the boy was likely strangled and beaten to death.

Anderson went before a judge for her first appearance on Saturday.

The mother who is currently pregnant with her fourth child told officials she has no home and no way of paying her bond, which was increased from $3,500 to $70,000.

The felony charges Charapata faces are for Anderson’s surviving children.

Both of them have been placed in foster care.
