Detroit 300: Women warned to stay alert

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - The group Detroit 300 and a number of woman are raising concerns after several recent assaults on Detroit's west side. One of those victims shared her story with Fox 2 Sunday.

The incidents have all taken place in the area of Fenkel and Evergreen. A woman says someone snatched her purse at a nearby Citgo gas station. She says it happened in a matter of seconds. Several items were stolen from her van. The woman feels she was being watched.

Arthur Edge with the group Detroit 300 says he doesn't know exactly how many incidents have taken place but he says a number of women have been assaulted at nearby gas stations. A spokesperson with Detroit police tells Fox 2 women are often attacked while looking at their cell phones or looking into their purses. People are urged to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
