World Cup fever growing in Chicago as first game approaches

The World Cup begins Thursday and people are gearing up all across Chicago.

There is a lot of national pride involved with the games, and the bar scene is expected to be packed for many of them. Wicker Park is just one big hot spot for World Cup action.

Folklore, an Argentinean restaurant on Division and Hoyne, will be all about the World Cup. They're even taking reservations for big groups, especially those rooting for Argentina.

Another popular spot to watch the games is Mirabell Restaurant. It offers a variety of German beer and food. They're located at 3454 W. Addison.

Both places will be opening up at 10:30 in the morning for World Cup games.

Food and Wine magazine posted the official drinks for the Cup. Brazil has Cachaca, a Brazilian spirit; Croatia has Slivovitz; USA is Bourbon and Ghana’s drink of choice is Akpeteshie.

Grant Park will be hosting viewing's of the USA games. Each of the matches will be up on a 19’-by-33’ high-definition screen and will include live look-ins on the fans in Chicago.

On Monday, USA will verse Ghana at 5 p.m. The game will be shown at Arvey Field near Columbus Drive and Roosevelt Road in Grant Park.

People can come watch the games, and the kids can participate in free soccer clinics hosted by players from the Chicago Fire and women's team, Chicago Red Stars.
