3 NYC bars where you can watch the World Cup

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Flags are flying outside pubs and bars all over New York City in anticipation of the world's biggest sporting event: the World Cup. We've narrowed the list down to a select few where you can comfortably watch all the world cup action.

At the top of our list of best places to watch the matches is Nevada Smiths near Union Square in Manhattan. It has 4 stories filled with more than 40 TVs, including one giant 20-foot-by-18-foot screen.

Up next it's the charming Smithfield Hall on West 25th Street in Manhattan, recommended to me via Twitter user @bigwaltdiesel. Its 19 crystal-clear led screens display all sports year round but soccer is always the top priority. The food is great, too. The bar has 28 draft beers; 17 from the United States and 7 of those are local.

If you're looking for a spot to watch a match in Brooklyn, I've got just the place: Woodwork in Prospect Heights. Ross and his team at woodwork have taken every precaution to make sure they're ready for prospect heights soccer fans. They've created a menu that's as diverse as the world cup competitors. Each flag outside is represented by a menu item inside, of course.

Modern dancers, writhing half-naked in front of giant weather-themed video installations. Miley Cyrus, not twerking, but working — in a new gig making jewelry with children's beads. A guy mowing a fake indoor lawn in a suit, top hat and fishnet tights. We didn't need to tell you that Fashion Week isn't only about hemlines and tailoring, did we? Some weird or wonderful (and sometimes both) moments of New York Fashion Week...
