Police on Long Island are reaching out to the public for help finding the person who shot the owner of Oheka Castle in Huntington in February.
Investigators had said little about their probe of the shooting of the well-connected businessman. On Thursday, Suffolk County Police released photos of the gunman's vehicle.
The shooter took off in an older model, light-colored, four-door Jeep Grand Cherokee at about 12:30 p.m. on February 24.
Gary Melius was shot in the head just above the eye while walking to his car on the grounds of the castle in broad daylight.
In March, he thanked his friends and relatives for their support in a video.“I got a break, whatever that reason what happened. I guess God looked out for me. He’s always looked out for me. I’m a very spiritual person; always pray. I thank God for everything that I got,” said Melius.
The gun shot exited behind his ear and never penetrated his skull.
The castle has hosted weddings and events for dignitaries and celebrities.
Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact police at the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers hotline: 1-800-220-TIPS.
Police say all calls will be kept confidential.
