LOS ANGELES (AP) - He's the ultimate button-down, blue-suited mayor. But put LA's Eric Garcetti in a hockey jersey and there's no telling what he might do.

Like let fly with the F-word in front of millions as he leads his city in celebration of the Los Angeles Kings' Stanley Cup championship.

Having shed his pinstriped suit of choice for a hockey jersey on Monday, Garcetti stepped in front of the TV cameras and some 19,000 people gathered at Staples Center, where the Kings won the Stanley Cup on Friday.

He reminded them that one of the first things a politician learns is never be caught swearing. Garcetti then used the word as he shouted, "But this is a big f---ing day. Way to go, guys." The place erupted in a standing ovation as he returned to his seat.

Watch and listen to Garcetti on the video above. (The speech is unedited, so you will hear him swear.)

From Bob DeCastro:

The Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup tour continues today, but the person generating much of the talk this morning is Mayor Eric Garcetti. Garcetti's use of an expletive at the Kings rally on Monday had fans exploding with laughter and cheers, and it trended on social media.

Garcetti was wearing a Kings jersey and holding a bottle of Bud Light. Speaking about politicians, Garcetti told the crowd, "They say never, ever be pictured with a drink in your hand and never swear. But this is a big (expletive) day."

The rally was televised live on FOX Sports West, and the network was unable to censor the offending word.

But there is some fallout. Some criticize the Mayor's language for being "classless."

Mayor Garcetti appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live following the rally and said, "We didn't win lawn bowling, we won at hockey."

"Kids out there, do not say what your mayor said today," Garcetti's added.
