CHARLESTON, WV-- A daughter's cry for help on Facebook was what saved her father's life. The Vance family said they were sitting on a porch at their Logan County home in Charleston, West Virginia when lightning struck a nearby tree pinning the father, Gregory Vance underneath.
The storm knocked out cell phone service in the town, so the Vance family couldn't call 9-1-1, but they could use the internet, so they depended on social media to get the word out.
Mr. Vance's 10-year-old daughter posted a video message on Facebook. In the video, the girl pleaded for help and requested an ambulance.
Authorities say, she's the reason gregory made a safe return home from the hospital. Since getting pinned under a tree, his children have been nursing him back to health.
Vance suffered a broken shoulder, ribs, and various disks in his back. However, he's expected to make a full recovery.
