A.J. Blomberg is a 16-year old news-junkie who attends Central Academy of Technology and Arts in Monroe. He was recently chosen as one of 200 students nationwide to attend the 2014 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University.

Blomberg was chosen based on "academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies."

The conference takes place July 13-18. Blomberg will take part in hands-on training, experimental learning through decision-making simulations and explore the creative, practical and ethical tensions on journalism and media.

Speakers throughout the media community will provide insight. Prominent journalists, CEO's of major media outlets, researchers and recent college graduates who have successfully entered the field.

Blomberg says he's always had a passion for news and media.

"I think it's really cool to see how different it is and to see how different news organizations bring the news to people in different ways," Blomberg said. "The news affects their lives so they play a big role in their lives everyday."

Blomberg is looking to the future and sees journalism as a likely calling. His dream job would be to anchor for a network.

"We'll get an idea to what we'll be doing in the future and determine if this is really what we want to go into," Blomberg said.
