Imagine paying more than $250,000 just to stay in a country you call home. That’s what Dianne Stewart says was the total cost to stay a legal resident in America. Her story is now featured in a movie about immigration reform, titled The Stranger by filmmaker Linda Midgett.

“Many immigrants feel like they are strangers in the shadows. They feel like they are hiding away because they are afraid to come out and speak about how they got here and why they’re here,” she said.

She came to the us in 2001. When her L1 Visa expired after seven years, and her green card application was denied, Stewart had to leave the country.Three months later, her husband was granted a Visa, so Stewart came back to America with her husband.

Stewart says while some people chose to hide in the shadows, she brought her story to light, sharing it in a film The Stranger.
