ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Excitement is brewing for Harry Potter fans because Diagon Alley will open to the public at Universal Studios on July 8th. Universal Orlando officials announced the date Wednesday during a media preview of the area.
That part of the park area is based on the "Harry Potter" books and movies. Tuesday kicked off a 4-day party at the park celebrating 4 years of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but what everyone really wants to know is when the new Diagon Alley expansion will open.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley is set to open this summer, with no specific date announced yet. The media and press previews are taking place this week.
Construction walls that had been hiding the London Waterfront came down last week and new details about the expansion are emerging, says JeniLynn Knopp, On-Air Talent and Multimedia Content Developer for The Disney Information Station.
The London Waterfront sets the scene for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida. This area of the expansion includes King’s Cross Station, the Knight Bus, The Leaky Cauldron, Grimmauld Place, and much more.
Knopp says there will be an interactive wand experience in both the existing Hogsmeade and in the new Diagon Alley.
Few details have been shared about the thrill ride that will be called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Knopp says she has learned that it will be much like "Revenge of the Mummy meets the Transformers."
Fans of butterbeer will be excited to know that butterbeer ice cream will be offered at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, adds Knopp.
As we have reported, guests will have to purchase a 2-day park pass in order to travel to both areas of the Wizarding World (Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida and Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.)
