Blake Bortles signs 4-year contract with the Jags

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Blake Bortles, the first quarterback taken in the NFL draft, has signed a four-year contract worth more than $20.6 million!

As the third overall selection, the University of Central Florida grad signed the fully guaranteed deal Wednesday before the second day of a mandatory three-day minicamp.

Bortles first started to make a name for himself back in 2012 when he led UCF to a Conference USA East Division Championship and bowl victory.

In 2013, Bortles led the Knights to an upset of then-No. 8 Louisville to win the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship, along with an upset victory over sixth-ranked Baylor in the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.

When he signed with the Jaguars,
Bortles also got a signing bonus of $13.3 million.  The Jaguars get a team option for a fifth year.

With Bortles under contract, the Jaguars have two unsigned draft picks -- second-round receivers Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson.

The team expects to sign both by the end of the week.  Bortles has been up and down in organized team activities about what the Jaguars expected when they drafted him.

They planned to let him watch and learn in 2014 and take over next season.

The Associated Press helped with the writing of this story.
