A north suburban man facing murder charges in connection with the deaths of his wife and daughter was indicted by a Lake County grand jury on Wednesday, the News-Sun is reporting.
Anthony Marcus of Waukegan, who will be arraigned July 10, is being held in the Lake County Jail on a $5 million bond.
Marcus, 53, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after allegedly killing his wife and daughter on the evening of June 8. Police said he called 911 and told dispatchers he killed his family and was going to slit his wrist.
His wife, 50-year-old Sun Marcus; and his 17-year-old daughter, Samantha, were found strangled, police said. The family dog was also found dead in the home in the 4100 block of Continental Drive.
Prosecutors said Marcus left a note to another daughter saying, “I’m sorry, your dad is a failure at everything.”
In bond court the morning after the murders, Marcus appeared wearing a large white bandage wrapped around his left wrist. He told the judge he had recently been laid off from his job, and indicted he could not afford an attorney. A public defender has been appointed.
