Drone/UAV flying: Is it legal? Is it safe?

Drones just aren't for the U.S. Air Force, the Border Patrol, or the CIA anymore. The technology is now available for everyone. Most hobby stores sell them starting for around $500 up through a few thousand dollars. But is it safe or legal for just anyone to buy a drone and just start flying it with no instruction or training?

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - They dance in front of thousands of sports fans at Phoenix Suns Games, but these dancers share something unique. They're all 55 and up.

"Everything's gold... we all like bling," said a dancer.

From head to toe the Golden Grannies dazzle.

In their fifties, sixties, seventies, and eighties, these women dance in front of thousands of fans at Phoenix Suns Games.

And they do it with a level of confidence that's admirable to people of all ages.

"I'm 86," said Laverna Rodriguez.

The oldest Golden Granny, Laverna Rodriguez didn't start dancing until she was 50 years-old. She's been a Golden Granny for 6 years now.

"You never know at a young age what you're gonna do in life," said Rodriguez.

Part of the Golden Grannies charm is that these sweet little old ladies are dancing to hip-hop, we're talking JayZ and Ludacris.

"Well, I'm loving the routine we just did because my favorite move is one false move, and I'll take ya down," said Mary Lou Roof.

"This year we had a few new hip-hop moves that are not in our repertoire, so we had to work really hard to work those because it's now how we're used to moving," said Jane Bechtol.

In a society that tends to forget older women, these ladies take center stage and steal the spotlight, game after game.

"I love it, people ask for their autograph; they come up to me, and they wanna put me on their Facebook page," said Roof.

"Sometimes when we're in the tunnel, and they can see that we're coming you can hear it, we've heard it all before, it kind of goes around that the grannies are coming," said Bechtol.

With each stop these women not only entertain, but also inspire their audiences.

"I'm stopped all the time by women younger than me, older than me, around my age, and they can't believe I'm on the dance team like this," said Madeline Shirley.

They also motivate each other through their moves and their friendships.

"So many young people don't look forward to things in life, the Golden Grannies have all had wonderful jobs in their past, raised their kids, and still going on exercising. They're remarkable people," said Rodriguez.

"It shows me that you can keep going at any age, you can still garner attention from people and crowds, and support a team or teams like we do," said Shirley.

Auditions will be held again in October. These ladies say the most important thing you can bring is your personality.

In addition to the Suns games, you can catch the Golden grannies at the Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers Games. They also visit schools around the valley.
