Former CPD commander Jon Burge can keep pension

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The Illinois Supreme Court ruled Thursday that disgraced former police commander Jon Burge can keep his police pension.

In a 4 to 3 ruling, the Supreme Court justices decided State Attorney Lisa Madigan cannot challenge a police pension board vote that gave Burge a green light to keep his $3,000 a month pension.

Burge is currently serving a 4.5 year sentence for perjury and obstruction of justice for lying about police brutality during a deposition in a civil trial.

Also Thursday, the state cannot reduce retirement benefits for public employees.
