Woman to run 7 marathons in 7 days

Posted: Updated:

A Long Island woman is embarking on several marathons in seven days to fight cancer. Glen Cove resident Eva Casale is an ultramarathoner who plans to log 183.4 miles in seven consecutive days.

She's calling it the 7-7-7-7 Challenge.

Casale writes: "On July 7th, 2014 (7/7) I will begin my journey to run 7 marathons in 7 days. Each marathon will take place on Long Island. I am still working on the courses/names for each one and hope to have this finalized soon. The goal is to try and raise $7K per day. $49,000.00 as a TOTAL FUNDRAISING GOAL!!!

This event will benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. For a donation, you can participate as a runner and join me in this awesome adventure! You can sign up to run a leg (approx 7 miles) at the end of each marathon (from mile 19-26.2). If you complete this, you receive a special event medal. Participants can also sign up to run a 1/2 marathon on Saturday July 12th. Show your support in the fight to cure blood cancers!!"

The different marathons will be focusing on different areas on Long Island.

The 26.2-mile courses will be in Hauppauge, Sayville, Farmingdale, Babylon, Long Beach, Massapequa and Glen Cove.

Casale has been running for decades. She's completed 51 full marathons and 32 ultramarathons, ranging from 31 to 126.2 miles.

The 49 year old is a coach and volunteer with Team in Training. It raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She joined it in 2007 after donating a kidney to a stranger in need.

Her goal is to raise $49,000. Donations can be made at www.goteameva.org.
