Undocumented children could be housed in Vassar, Mich.

VASSAR, Mich. (WJBK) - It's a hot button issue across America and now it's hitting close to home.

More than 100 undocumented children are expected to be brought to a facility in Vassar, Michigan.

Concerned citizens gathered to hear details about the move Wednesday night.

Fox 2's Taryn Asher was at the meeting and reports the meeting was supposed to be informative, but most people came already having their mind made up.

Members of the Michigan Militia, protesters and concerned citizens were among hundreds that came to learn about a possible, precedent-setting plan that would house some of the thousand refugee children from Central America in the rural town near Saginaw.

Wolverine Human Services, a social service agency based in Grosse Pointe, would provide the shelter at their juvenile facility in Vassar.

Despite the hecklers, senior vice president Derrick McCree told the crowd the plan to house up to 120 legal immigrant males ages 12-17. They would be immunized, given physicals, trauma counseling and taught life skills. The housing would only be temporary.

One city council member tells Asher he thinks a deal has already been made.

"I'm assuming, and I'm sure I'm right, that it's a done deal and the busses ought to be rolling in. They told us that the kids would come in sometime mid-July to the end of July," says Dan Surgent.

McCree refused to answer questions but reportedly Wolverine is expected to be paid thousands for every child they take in.
