Saint Clair Shores garage destroyed, fireworks suspected

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK) - It's believed explosives started a fire at a home in Saint Clair shores. The flames sent a family scrambling for safety, including two children.

The garage exploded at Christina Valenti's home on Courtland Street Saturday night and her house was in danger. A neighbor's cell phone video captured the flames. Now, the garage is a charred shell. The family fell asleep to the sound of fireworks going off in the neighborhood around 11pm. Christina, her husband and her two little girls were able to escape and rush to safety.

Fire crews arrived quickly but in total six homes were damaged. A shell which looks like it belongs to fireworks was found among the rubble. Investigators believe it may have burned through the garage roof. The cause is still under investigation but the Valenti's feel certain fireworks caused the sudden fire. Thankfully, no injuries are reported.
