COMMERCE CITY, CO -A 19-month-old Colorado toddler was seriously injured after being attacked by a pit bull.
Now the owner of the dog is speaking about the incident....from jail.
Everything Sue Tackett owns was in these bags piled near a vacant lot.
She didn't have much to begin with.
And with the death of her dog Zeus, she now says, she has nothing.
"He wasn't just a dog he was part of my life he was my family he was all I had I have nothing now," said Tackett.
51-year-old Tackett is in the Adams County jail.
She was arrested Monday night after her pit bull Zeus mauled a 19-month-old boy.
"Yes I am worried about that child but people don't realize Zeus was my child he was my baby and I would have never let him hurt nobody ever," said Tackett.
Commerce City Police say the dog died as a result of injuries that occurred when officers tried to control him with catch poles.
"It took three full grown officers to get this dog under control," said one witness.
Tackett and the toddler were part of a group of transients camping in this vacant lot.
She was panhandling and taking a bathroom break when witnesses say the dog attacked the child.
"The dog grabbed barked and lunged out of his harness and leash bit the child in the face," a witness said.
Tackett says the little boy had been running around near her dog all day and Zeus had never hurt anyone before.
"I've never been in trouble why am I sitting in jail," said Tackett
Tackett is under arrest for having a pit bull in Commerce City where the breed is illegal.
Tackett says she had no idea she and Zeus were breaking the law.
