Orlando aviation hero reunited with fighter jet

Posted: Updated:
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - After more than 40 years, Orlando native and American aviation hero Colonel Joe Kittinger has been reunited with one of the F-4 Phantom jets that he flew during the Vietnam War.  The plane was located in Texas and shipped to Orlando.

Beaming with pride, the former fighter pilot and prisoner of war greeted the plane as it arrived in many parts and rolled into the airport, where it will undergo a total restoration, including being painted in its original camouflage colors, before being permanently displayed at Colonel Joe Kittinger Park at Orlando Executive Airport..

A private fundraising effort is underway to cover all associated costs. For more information please contact Carolyn Fennell or Rod Johnson in the Office of Public Affairs at the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority at 407-825-2055.
