A police advocate tells FOX 5 there aren’t enough police officers patrolling Cobb County and the situation is turning dire.
According to attorney Lance Lorusso, the Cobb County Police Department is understaffed and the problem is getting worse.
Lorusso is a former police officer and now a police advocate. He will speak before the county Board of Commissioners Tuesday night to reiterate the need for more manpower and resources.
According to the Department of Public Safety records obtained by FOX 5, 194 sworn employees have left since 2011.
Twenty-four sworn employees have left since February of this year and as of July 1, there are 60 sworn vacancies.
“They are seeing a great deal of officers leaving because benefits and pay at the other departments are higher,” said Lorusso.
Lorusso says Cobb County residents need to step up and call their commissioners because fewer officers mean less protection.
