Northern Arizona winery planning to go 100% solar

CORNVILLE, Ariz. - You might not think of Arizona as wine country, but at Page Springs Vineyard and Winery, in Cornville near Sedona, conditions are ripe for great grapes.

There are reds and whites of all types at this award-winning vinery.

There's a lot of tradition when it comes to winemaking. But at Page Springs there's something very modern going on.

"We are definitely a green business, we farm organically... we knew when we built this place we wanted to go 100% solar... and we have a wine club, and some of our wine club members have an amazing solar company as well," said Eric Glomski.

Julie King and her husband are those wine club members, and their company is Harmon Solar, they plan to cover the parking lot in solar panels.

When all is said and done, they will have about 375 solar panels covering the parking lot at a total energy savings of $1,100 a month.

It's solar power that will go a long way.

"It's over 85% of their annual energy use, so it is about 161,000 annual kilowatt hours in a year," said King.

On Wednesday, they were bottling a fine cabernet grown with the power of the sun, and soon to be bottled with it too.
