On Monday the Harrisburg Town Council will hold a public hearing on the annexation of a property on the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg County line. Town staff members say a developer has spoken with them about putting in close to 500 homes there, but some town officials feel that may be too much development for the area to handle.
The property is off Plaza Road Extension near Rocky River Road. Harrisburg Mayor Steve Sciascia is concerned about the potential strain a development of that magnitude could put on schools and other infrastructure. Town Manager Mike Rose says the town has to balance the positive aspects of development with the stress on resources.
The meeting Monday, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Harrisburg Town Hall, does not concern zoning, only annexation of the property.
