Mother Of 3 Children Killed In Carjacking Dies, Suspects Face New Charges

Posted: Updated:

The mother of the three children that were killed in that carjacking in North Philadelphia has died. Keisha Williams had been hospitalized since the carjacking and crash that killed her three children last month.

District Attorney Seth Williams released a statement about the news.

"My heart continues to break for the family and friends of Keisha, Keiearra, Joseph and Terrance," said Williams. "The thoughts and prayers of my office continue to be with everyone affected by the senseless crimes that occurred on July 25th. I hope the knowledge that I am prosecuting these defendants to the fullest extent of the law will give the family some sense of justice during this time of unimaginable grief."

"Nobody expected that to happen. I expected her to come out," said crash survivor Thelma Brown.

Brown says she is stunned her friend Williams didn't pull through and died Thursday night at Temple University Hospital. She says the 34-year-old just awoke from a coma on Wednesday and Brown was making plans to care for Williams when she got home.

"I don't know but God has a purpose for me. For me to still be here he has a purpose for me," said Brown.

Brown says her thoughts are now with Williams' two older daughters who were not present when the crash took place

“The only thing I can say to those girls, your mothers not suffering anymore. Your brothers and sister are not suffering. And you have to take care of yourself now,” she said.

Jonathan Rosa and Cornelius Crawford were arrested and charged in connection with the carjacking and crash. The suspects now face four counts of murder in the second degree, conspiracy, robbery, robbery of a vehicle, kidnapping, sexual assault and other related offenses.

Police said the two men carjacked a 45-year-old real estate agent at gunpoint at N 6th Street and Cumberland Streets, forced her into the backseat. The two suspects alternated behind the wheel and sexually assaulted the woman they carjacked in the backseat, according to authorities.

Police say the suspects lost control of the car due to a high rate of speed, the tire blew, leading to the accident. Police also have video from the crash scene. The suspects crashed the SUV into Keisha Williams, and her three children, 15-year-old Keiearra Williams, 10-year-old Thomas Reed and 7-year-old Terrence Moore, police say. The three children died as a result of the accident.

According to Commissioner Ramsey, the original motive was robbery.

Captain Clark said a cell phone was found at scene by a Good Samaritan who called police. According to Captain Clark, the suspects only knew each other for a one week.

“That cell phone belonged to Rosa, Jonathan Rosa, and that's what really got this investigation going,” said Captain Clark.

“He made a statement without me being present. He is doing everything in his power to atone for this. He is completely shattered,” said Rosa's attorney Christopher Warren. “He's never been in trouble. He's never been in jail. He supposed to be going into the Marines in a couple months. Obviously, that's not gonna happen."

In 2007, Crawford was convicted of robbery, sentenced 5-13 years, and was paroled near his minimum date, according to Captain Clark.

Both suspects face life in prison.
