Alumni football game raises money for schools

REDFORD, Mich. (WJBK) -

It was a great night for a football game under the lights in Redford! Saturday, players took the filed at Redford Thurston High School for an alumni game to raise money for school athletic programs.

All of the players were former high school football players -- some haven't played in years! They came together to take on the Harper Woods Pioneers in a game organized through Alumni Football USA. One of the players was Scottie Genord, a former Redford Eagle who made it to the NFL.

"A lot of these guys haven't played for 18, 20 years," Genord told Fox 2. "So it's good to get off the couch, see what what you've still got, and it's just fun to get out there."

Thurston won 21-0. The game raised more than $4000 for the schools' athletic programs. Alumni Football USA has put on more than 1,000 games in 24 states and raised close to $1 million for local schools across the country.
