Fourth woman attacked near Midlothian Metra station

MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. (FOX 32 News) - Women in Midlothian are on high alert after four women were reportedly ambushed near a Midlothian Metra station.

The victims likely never saw it coming.

Officials say the suspect wears a hoodie and mask and attacks from behind. Then, seconds later, vanishes in the dark.

The latest incident happened Sunday morning just after 12 a.m. near 145th Street and Trumbull Avenue. A woman was robbed as she was walking home from the station.

Midlothian’s police chief Hal Kaufman replied to a Facebook post about the incidents saying, “I can assure we are doing everything possible to catch this guy and bring him to justice. Please all be aware of your surroundings and don’t walk alone until this matter gets resolved.”

“We should have a cop here, there should definitely be a cop here, at least a police officer, I know Metra is understaffed but... I take that every day,” said Blake Nance.

There were no police or security at the Midlothian Metra station Sunday afternoon, despite the recent attacks.

“Someone should be here especially for the later night trains,” said Nance.

“I do carry mace but I don't know what would happen in that instance. Stress, fear, I don't know if I would have the gumption to pull it out and spray somebody but I don't know. I'd certainly fight for my life,” said Irene Kaminski.

Kaminski says she’s been commuting from the Midlothian Metra stop for more than two decades and never felt in fear until now.

“I've lived here a long time so this is surprising that this is occurring right now,” said Kaminski.

“My boyfriend dropped me off so I feel pretty good if I got dropped off. But if I was here on my own at night, I think I would feel a little nervous,” said Lauren Neylon.

Earlier this week a 23-year-old woman was attacked and robbed as she walked home from the Midlothian Metra station shortly after midnight. Midlothian police are investigating if the attacks are connected.

Midlothian Police Chief Kaufman plans to address residents’ concerns Monday around 11:30 a.m. FOX 32's Joanie Lum will have the latest on this developing story on FOX 32 News at Noon.
