Wanted: Zoo Atlanta's escaped owl

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA - Zoo Atlanta is on the lookout for an owl that flew away from trainers on Sunday.

Soren, a 2-year-old male barn owl, got loose during a flight session. Zookeepers were able to track the own via telemetry to a position on Cherokee Avenue, but they are not sure if he is still in the area. They also are not sure if the owl is still wearing its telemetry equipment.

Soren is described as being 10 inches tall and will most likely be among the leafy branches high in the tree canopy of Atlanta, but will come down to find food. He has a leather anklet on each foot and a gold band on his left foot.

He might be heard before he is seen with his high-pitched trills, rather than a hoot.

While zoo officials say Soren poses no threat to humans or pets, they advise people not to approach or attempt to handle him as he is timid of strangers.

Anyone with information on Soren's whereabouts is asked to call Zoo Atlanta Security at 404-624-5670.
