40 ISP troopers to hit the streets with CPD starting Thursday

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago gained national attention for its crime fighting efforts and violence trends. This week, Illinois State Police troopers will be aiding the Chicago Police Department to get some of the most dangerous criminals off the streets.

Starting Thursday, Illinois State Police Director Haram Grau says 40 of his troopers will work for the next month on a "fugitive apprehension task force." He says while many people don't think the effort will make a difference, the ISP will make it work.

"What people don't realize is that many our troopers are coming out of the district of Chicago, so they are familiar with the city. Many of our troopers are from Chicago, born and raised here," Grau said.

Grau said there will most likely be a period of adjustment of the officers, but that is standard when merging departments for a task force.

"I am very confident this will be successful. I don't see how it can go wrong."

Wednesday afternoon, the troopers will be briefed on their roles in helping to combat crime.
