VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
The annual “Kicks 4 Guns” event kicked off Thursday in Volusia County in an effort to remove unwanted weapons off the streets.
Both the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department will exchange gift cards for guns, which should be unloaded and safely secured, with no questions asked.
Daytona Beach police will be collecting from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the John H. Dickerson Center at 308 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. For more information or to make a donation, call 386-871-5224.
Volusia County deputies will be collecting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Volusia County Fairgrounds at 3150 E. New York Ave.
Deputies say they destroy the weapons unless they find out they were used in a crime or were stolen.
Residents who are unable to get to the drop off can make arrangements for a deputy to pick up unwanted firearms by calling any of the following phone numbers and then pressing the number three: 386-736-5999, 386-248-1777, or 386-423-3888.
