Health Works: Watch out for heavy backpacks for back to school

Back to school time means packing up the backpacks.

Dr. Art Niederkohr of the Anchor Bay Spine Center said that parents want to watch the weight of backpacks and pay attention to how much it drags on the child wearing it.

The backpack should be just below the back of the neck and above the backside. A huge gap in the middle of the back can lead to back and neck pain.

Backpacks should also weigh no more than 10 percent of a child's bodyweight.

Watch the video to see the correct way backpacks should be fit.
