Local Demonstrators Hold Peaceful Rally, Pledging Solidarity With Ferguson

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of protesters hit the streets again on Tuesday in the aftermath of the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

Michael Brown's funeral is set for Monday.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen covered a peaceful local demonstration held.

A diverse crowd of dozens packed into a corner at 52nd and Market in West Philadelphia. They held signs pledging solidarity with Ferguson, Missouri, condemning what they call the police brutality that killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The rally's organizer says the shooting of Brown is a reminder of problems at home.

"We're in solidarity because police officers in Philadelphia kill our brothers and sisters every day, every so often, and so we can be Ferguson today or tomorrow if they mess with the wrong person,” said event organizer Sabrina Sample.

Danielle Crawley spoke to the crowd, saying her brother was wrongly killed by a cop 3 years ago.

"I'm over top of him, crying, trying to stop the blood there's nothing else you can do,” said Crawley.

The rally came right as Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey wrapped up a conference call with the U.S. Attorney General representing the major City Chiefs Association.

"We'll see how major City chiefs can help if at all in this situation, providing support and some advice,” said Ramsey. "People are getting shot as a result of this; businesses are being burned and looted. I mean it just has to stop, and we got to figure out a way to do it."
