Ole Henriksen: Rejuvenate Summer's Sun Damaged Skin

Posted: Updated:

As summer draws to a close, it's time to change up your skincare routine to prepare for changing temperatures

At OleHenriksen Face/Body Spa, we treat famous TV faces (like Lisa Kudrow!) with end-of-summer facials to rejuvenate sun-damaged skin, and prep for the Emmy Awards

RECIPE 1 – Anti-Hyperpigmentation Mask

Even with a proper SPF, hyperpigmentation occurs after a summer of sun exposure

Alpha hydroxy acids, Vitamin C, and Acti White (derived from sugar and pea extract), help stimulate the skin's cell turnover rate dramatically

Mimic this at home by combining:

  • 2 oz of plain Greek yogurt, containing lactic acid
  • 2 oz of lemon juice, containing citric acid and vitamin c
  • 2 oz of apple juice, containing malic acid and vitamin a

Mix the ingredients, and store in a bottle, in the fridge.

Apply all over the face nightly with a facial brush, leave to absorb, and follow with your moisturizer.

RECIPE 2 – Cinnamon Complexion Scrub

Exfoliation helps eliminate dead, dull skin cells caused by the drying effects of the sun

Twice weekly, exfoliation will also help to deep cleanse the skin of impurities, and improve on the skins all over tone and texture.

Mix:

  • 1 heaping tablespoon cinnamon.
  • 1 heaping tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon powdered oats
  • 1 small tablespoon fine salt
  • 6 drops of essential lavender oil
  • Avocado oil as needed for a smooth consistency

Work into damp skin in upward and outward circular motion, using the fingertips. Spend app. 2 minutes on this important step.

RECIPE 3 – Warm Oil Compress

Circulation is key to brighten the skin's overall appearance

A warm essential oil compress is a great way to get the benefits of a professional complexion steam treatment at home

  • Fill the sink with 1/3 warm water, and add 1/2 a tablespoon of lavender essential oil
  • Make sure to blend this highly therapeutic essential oil well with the water
  • Drench a thin cotton facecloth with the mixture, place firmly across the entire face and hold in place with both palms for 30 seconds
  • Give your skin a moments break and repeat again

Repeat this indulgent step 5 times - your skin will love it and so will you!

RECIPE 4 – Avocado Complexion Oil

Finally, finish with a complexion oil with anti-aging benefits, to optimize elasticity and give skin a luminous celebrity glow

Combine:

  • 1 oz avocado oil
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops geranium essential oil
  • 5 drops of sandalwood essential oil

Blend the ingredients, and store in the fridge in a small glass bottle.

Apply sparingly every night, a little goes a long way.
