Woman delivers baby on I-285

Posted: Updated:

Two parents welcomed their baby boy in a very unique way over the weekend.

Christina Miranda says her contractions started just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. Miranda and her husband got in their car, dropped of their 2-year-old daughter with family and headed for the hospital.

“And then the contractions got real serious, real fast and I was like we have to go,” said Miranda.

Miranda's husband, Kevin, was driving.

“Got to the point where my contractions were back to back and I am screaming and cursing and telling my husband Kevin we need to pull over because he is coming now,” said Miranda.

Kevin Miranda says he was determined to get to the hospital.

“I look over and she is pulling down her shorts, she is like ‘he is coming he is coming' and I am like ‘no way, no way hold on I'm almost there,'” said Kevin Miranda.

As the two got to the Roswell Road exit on Interstate 285, Miranda took matters into her own hands.

“I said ‘seriously he is coming now,' pulled him out, laid him on my chest,” said Miranda.

They got to Northside Hospital about two minutes later. The couple says the staff could not believe what had just happened.

Baby Rocky was born just an hour and a half after her first contraction. The Mirandas say they're grateful there were no complications with their healthy 7 pound, 20 inch baby boy!

Both Miranda and the baby are doing well and are expected to go home on Tuesday.
