Popular 6-year-old theater critic never gives a bad review

Posted: Updated:

He is a theater critic that is keeping it positive. The actors love him because he rarely says anything bad!

Iain Armitage likes to splash in fountains and he does a pretty impressive double cartwheel. But his real love is the theater.

Young Iain lives in Arlington and he has become a pint-sized theater critic. He is just six years old. His home base is the Signature Theatre in Shirlington.

His father is Tony Award nominee Euan Morton. For the record, he rarely reviews dad's work.

“I didn't say too many things about him because then they would be like: ‘Of course he likes it. His dad is in it,'” Iain told us.

When he grows up, he wants to be “a director like my amazing mom.”

A few years ago, Iain's mother started recording him talking about plays. His first show ever was “Hairspray.” Even back then, he never got antsy. And he says he never gets bored during a show. However, he confesses he likes intermission.

“Especially at Signature [Theatre],” he said. “You can get cookies.”

We asked him if he could believe that thousands of people have watched his reviews.

“No, it's great,” said Iain. “I like the feeling of it.”

Besides Sir Ian McKellen, his favorite actor is Neil Patrick Harris.

Iain is a performer himself. He put one red foam ball in my hand and turned it into two. How did he do that?

“I never give away my secrets,” he said.

He even taught me a few dance moves.

I can tell you from experience he is sort of critic who is, well, not so critical. Does he ever give the show a bad review?

“I focus on the happy part of shows,” he told us.
