Daughter saves father’s life in Buford

Posted: Updated:

A Buford man says he owes his life to his little girl.

Ernie Baca is alive after a seizure on Sunday and there's a good chance his 5-year-old daughter, Aliyah, is the one to thank.

“He got out of bed and said he felt dizzy,” said Aliyah. “And he fell down and I saw him shaking.”

Baca's wife, Shana, was out of the house when the seizure happened, so getting help was all up to Aliyah.

Aliyah went over to her neighbor's house and called 911. Minutes later, paramedics were there and rushed Baca to the hospital.

Amazingly, the little girl says she was never scared.

“I was a brave girl,” said Aliyah.

The girl's mother says it's incredible that her daughter knew what to do to save her father's life.

“I don't think there's many 5-year-olds that would know what to do, and last time it happened I was freaking out,” said Shana Baca.

Baca continues to recover and says this should be a lesson to all parents: Teach your kids the importance of knowing how to use 911.

“There's a lot of people that don't put that into their kids,” said Baca. “You gotta take time and let them know when something happens, 911 is the way to go and get help.”

While many may shy away from the title “hero,” Aliyah says it suits her just fine. “Because I saved my daddy's life,”
