Serial stowaway Marilyn Hartman speaks out

Posted: Updated:

62-year-old Marilyn Hartman admits she knows what she's been doing is wrong, but she says she's sneaking past airport security because she wants to get arrested and wants her story to be told.

What story that she's trying to tell is unclear, but after her jailhouse interview it was clear, Hartman could really benefit from a mental health evaluation.

"My question is why has the government allowed me to get past security points... why is this government allowing that to happen, and portraying me as a potential threat to security as opposed to addressing another issue," said Marilyn Hartman.

Hartman couldn't say exactly why she does it; she's been caught sneaking past security several times at airports in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and now Phoenix. She says she doesn't do it because she wants to travel but because she wants to make a point.

"At age 62 I had mentally prepared myself to go to jail or be arrested with a trial. I thought maybe I'll have a chance to tell the original story. It goes back years because it wasn't until I filed a case that I was overshadowed by the corrupt FBI, I believe the trauma I went through is instigated by the retaliation," she said.

She admits to being diagnosed with major depression but also claims to be suffering from trauma.

"I would recognize it as a whistleblower trauma syndrome, and it's not recognized, but I was in a whistleblower case a long time ago that involved a lawyer who was fixing cases," she said.

MCSO could not confirm whether Hartman received a mental health evaluation before being booked into general population.

Hartman's next court date is September 2nd; it's at that point the judge could decide her fate.
