Dealing with parental separation anxiety

While many think of children when it comes to separation anxiety, it can be as bad or worse for parents.

In particular, separation anxiety hits hardest for parents sending their kids off to college.

Bari Berkowitz calls it launching your child, sending your kids off to college to live in the real world.

Berkowitz, a licensed psychotherapist, said that it can be an emotional time when parents can feel like they are losing their identity.

"We think we have it all tidied up," she said. "Until we get to that dorm and we drive away, there's often some very intense emotions."
