CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Jury selection is underway for a man charged with the murder of an Indian Head Park teenager.

Jury selection began at about 11 a.m. Tuesday in a murder case that sent shock waves through the southwest suburbs almost three years ago.

Kelli O'Laughlin's parents and relatives were in attendance for Thursday's hearing.

There daughter was a 14-year-old freshman at Lyons Township High School.

In Oct. 2011, prosecutors say the teenager walked in on a burglary at her Indian Head Park home. She was stabbed repeatedly in the neck and chest.

The alleged killer, John Wilson Jr., stole her cell phone allegedly using it to send taunting messages to Kelli's mother Brenda.

Police tracked the cell phone and arrested Wilson a week after the murder. He'd been on parole for previous crimes.

Jury selection is expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon and possibly into Wednesday. The State's Attorney's office says it expects opening statements to begin Thursday.
