CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

A third American doctor has tested positive for Ebola according to SIM-USA, a Charlotte-based missions organization.

Dr. Rick Sacra, 51, was treating patients as a missionary doctor in Monrovia, Liberia. Sacra volunteered to go after Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol contracted Ebola.

Dr. Sacra was lives in Boston and was delivering babies in Liberia, not working with Ebola patients. He is now in isolation and it's unclear if he will return to the United States for treatment.

SIM said it does not know how the doctor contracted Ebola.

“My heart was deeply saddened, but my faith was not shaken, when I learned another of our missionary doctors contracted Ebola,” said Bruce Johnson, president of SIM USA. “As a global mission, we are surrounding our missionary with prayer, as well as our Liberian SIM/ELWA colleagues, who continue fighting the Ebola epidemic in Liberia. We have gifted Liberian doctors, medical staff and support staff who are carrying on the fight.”
